A newly launched seafood establishment housed in one of the country's oldest inns.

Proof that ye olde English splendour is alive and well, this newly launched seafood establishment is housed in one of the country's oldest inns.

So if it's atmosphere you want, this place lays it on thick and fast in a 15th-century building with dark hues, wood panelling, antiques and even word of the odd haunted room. Of course, all of this is mere padding to the superior offerings on the menu, which, contrary to expectations in such surroundings, is anything but traditional.

Delicate starter treats include millefeuille of crab and roasted peppers along with scallops cannelloni. Mains include a wonderfully scented salmon with rocket and cream cheese wrapped in a pâté, a brick pastry with vegetable stir fry, butternut squash puree, and lemon cream sauce.

This is countered by a very rustic and equally rewarding Dover sole with spinach, tomato compote, crushed baby new potatoes, black olives and saffron broth.
