Sea Breeze

10-12 High Street, Sutton-on-Sea, Lincs, 01507 441548

A seaside restaurant so popular that booking is essential, especially for the fantastic Sunday roast. Unusual chicken dishes, sea bass stuffed with garlic and prawns, kiln-roasted salmon... Fish is local, as is the veg.

Mary Jane's

27-29 Garden Street, Cromer, Norfolk, 01263 511208

A local landmark. In high season expect a long queue - and rightly so - for perfect fish and chips, all cooked to the same high standard. There is a restaurant, but I prefer my fish and chips down on the seafront.

The Victoria

Park Road, Holkham, Norfolk, 01328 711008

Some of the best modern British cooking in the area, though steer clear of the chef's more outré creations, as well as weekend meals, since that's when the area is swamped by braying second home-owners up from London.
