Why now?

For a short, sweet taste of the golden age of flying. Next Friday sees the first flights from historic Shoreham (Brighton City) airport to the Norman seaside town in an eight-seater aircraft.

Getting there

Skysouth (01273 446 400, skysouth.co.uk) flies four times a week from £149.50 return.

Where to stay

At Hostellerie de Tourgéville (0033 2 31 14 48 68, hostellerie-de-tourgeville.com), a forest hideaway with a cinema built by film director Claude Lelouch; doubles from £90.

What to do

Before you fly, take a minute to appreciate the art deco terminal at Shoreham. On arrival, check out the rich and beautiful, wrapped in furs, on Deauville's promenade des Planches, blow a wad at the casino and visit the museum in Trouville.

Where to eat

Trouville's renowned 1920s bistro Les Vapeurs (+2 31 88 15 24, lesvapeurs.fr) serves excellent local seafood.
